JOB SUMMARY

Senior finance operations role in Smith & Nephew Global Business Services (GBS) responsible
for the delivery of effective and efficient finance transactional processes and controls from a GBS centre for assigned S&N markets in line with the Group Finance Manual, Minimum Acceptable Practices (MAPs) and Sarbanes Oxley requirements. Acts as the single point of contact for the assigned Market Financial Controllers (FCs) and is a trusted partner for that individual.Works in conjunction with other service tower leaders in GBS Finance Operations to ensure a joined up transactional finance service is delivered to each assigned market and, to a significant extent, independently from S&N retained finance teams.Oversees the period end closing activities for all service towers and where necessary across centres, ensuring the books are closed in line with reporting timelines and with minimum omissions, errors and are free from post- closing adjustments.Reviews and approves period end balance sheet reconciliations, highlighting risks where appropriate.Is responsible for Target Operating Model alignment and consistency, identifies and implements innovative ideas and best practice.Comfortable operating with delegated
authority from the Market, independently from Retained Finance and in exercising judgement
over low to medium risk accounting areas and controls.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensures the end to end service is delivered to meet SLAs, KPIs and quality standards and in compliance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to assigned markets
Maintain SOPs to meet S&N standard cycles. Highlights and challenge exceptions from global standards
Ensure controls are implemented and adhered to in line with Risk and Control Matrices (RACMs) and wider S&N policies including the Group Finance Manual minimises Internal Audit observations and issues, and where raised ensures timely resolution
Ensures integrity of reporting and that it is performed in line with local GAAP requirements and S&N financial policies and procedures
Responsible for more complex and judgemental accounting tasks as well as review and approval of those from the delivery teams
Supports external and internal audit activity
Brings insight to the market Controller and team to improve end to end accounting quality, control, effectiveness and efficiency
Senses and responds to changes in the business and to accounting practice to ensure the finance function supports business strategies and remains compliant with local requirements
Supports service transitions into the centre and quickly stabilises the delivery
Supports transformation activities to deliver expected return on investment
Operate a Continuous Improvement culture and deliver / exceed productivity targets and other commercial benefits
Assists with the preparation and delivery of external statutory audit and tax compliance activities.
Make suggestions for the future use of new tools and technology especially in the Record to Report (RtR) process domain and where approved, implement into the Service offering
Identify reasons for service and control deficiencies and shortcomings and propose and implement solutions to resolve underlying issues
Engage in regular collaboration and communication with key stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction
Coaches, supports and develops staff delivering to the assigned markets to understand accounting principles and business context for their activities to improve quality and consistency of delivery

REQUIREMENTS


Travel: Domestic & internationals up to 25%
Education: Graduate with relevant degree and Qualified Accountant (ACA/CIMA or international equivalent) with at least 6-8 years post qualification experience

EXPERIENCE

Team Leading experience for at least 5 years and teams of at least 10 FTE
Controllership experience preferred
Experience of F&A service delivery in a Sarbanes-Oxley environment
Experience of implementing or improving processes using recognised methodologies such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean
Team player with ability to build relationships and influence matrixed team members and wider stakeholders
Excellent English communications skills written and verbal
Experience of SAP (ECC6) and MS Axapta
Operational experience of other Finance and Accounting tooling, such as Trintech or Blackline would be an advantage
Experience in a captive shared service or Business Process Outsourcing environment
Competencies
Communication, teamwork, analytical skills, attention to detail, flexibility and strong problem solving. Requires the ability to manage multiple and diverse tasks within tight timelines. Consistent supervisory skills required to lead and develop a small team; must lead by example
Proficient in the use of Microsoft office
