Wood is recruiting for an HSE Senior Manager to drive sustained excellence in HSE performance across Nuclear operations. The successful candidate will provide the HSE framework within which Nuclear managers and staff operate, so as to ensure that we comply with HSE legal & regulatory requirements, corporate Wood requirements and implement best practice across our locations. You will also be required to drive a strong safety culture within the organisation and ensure that the HSE Management Systems and related activities are adequately maintained and implemented and resulting actions are delivered effectively. It is essential that HSE business risks are minimised. Leadership – provide HSE leadership within Nuclear, promoting a safety conscious culture through visibility, good communication and training and promotion of HSE awareness.Ensures arrangements are in place to maintain compliance with HSE legislation. Ensures a positive safety culture is promoted.Ensure effective HSE communication is delivered, which includes weekly safety momentsPlans, implements, monitors and reviews all aspects of the HSE management systems and ensures that the HSE Management System certification remains in place. Responsible for ensuring all HSE Management System documentation is kept up-to-date and for ensuring policies and practices are adopted.Ensures that HSE incident response arrangements are established across all Nuclear offices and laboratories and sites (eg. first aid and fire evacuation).Ensures adequate safety walkdown and engagement arrangements are in place and undertaken for all offices, laboratories and sitesEnsures mandatory HSE training is identified Maintains HSE performance databases and reports in accordance with company requirementsEnsures an effective audit programme is maintained and audit findings are actioned.Defines effective working practices that are safe and checks that these are implemented in operationsKeeps up to date with new developments and maintains a working knowledge of the latest HSE related techniques and any HSE developments that affect the Nuclear professional environment. Manages the HSE Incident reporting system Provides monthly incident and headcount reporting informationEnsures effective reporting of HSE incidents Organises incident investigations and Incident Review Panels Communicates progressive learning arising from incidentsEnsures that a framework for HSE consultation and communication with employees is maintained (i.e each location has a Local HSE co-ordinator and an HSE Committee and that H&S Forum meetings take place)Undertakes staff health surveys and conducts baseline assessment for occupational health risksEnsures laboratory safety practices are defined and implemented, including COSHH assessmentsGrowth – support bids and proposals from an HSE perspective, and assists where required on set up of new offices and/or projectsQualificationsEducation – minimum degree level qualification in relevant subject but requirement can be met by equivalent experience or HSE Professional qualificationUK national with the ability to obtain SC clearance as a minimumChartered Safety Practitioner status Knowledge, skills and experienceAn in- depth understanding of the Nuclear business, its markets, its key customer base and associated HSE requirements is desirableHas sufficient grounding, standing and knowledge to be able to assist management and staff in HSE matters and to liaise appropriately with customer and regulatory teams.Knowledge and experience of nuclear HSE requirements, and the industry’s regulations and standards in countries of our operations; familiarity with relevant EU directives, IAEA standards, UK and French regulatory requirements and standards in other countries of operation is desirable Personal attributesExcellent leadership capability and communication skillsEffective manager of project delivery teams.Pro-active – engage broadly with stakeholders to identify and deliver systems and processes required to meet business needsStrong communication – achieve buy-in and support from all levels of staff to deliver HSE performanceMoral courage to act decisively in uncomfortable situations when required Strong teamwork behaviour Able to connect people and issues and drive a quick response.
