As Head of Marine you’ll lead activities within the UK, Ireland and Iceland supporting RINA’s ambitious growth plans. Reporting into the Area Director, The Head of Marine will be involved in a range of challenging but exciting opportunities where your tasks will range from dealing with clients’ technical and operational queries, to managing, developing and implementing relationships internally and externally to grow our business. Supporting RINA’s Area Director, you’ll drive development across our Marine unit, manage a team of colleagues and be the technical reference/support for local and future Clients. This opportunity offers UK and worldwide travel. The Head of Marine will be focussed on contributing to managing all operations within Marine in line with RINA’s business unit strategy. Whilst achieving the commercial, quality, technical and operative objectives, you’ll guide the career development of your team, ensuring that they are motivated, improve their competences and skills to sit alongside RINA business needs. As Head of Marine you’ll be responsible for providing technical leadership of Marine Surveyors/Auditors, through the provision of training, supervision and witnessed inspections as well as: Ensuring full compliance of all activities with the actual regulatory framework to provide in service inspections to demonstrate compliance to RINA Rules and Procedures and relevant statutory legislation Provide technical expertise within marine sector, ensuring that RINA technical philosophy and strategies are understood and adhered to throughout the business unit Act as reference point of for any technical issue outside the Surveyors’ competence Develop and provide innovative solutions to in-service inspection processes Provide quotations for new work Be the local technical reference contact for the UK administration and to ensure the compliance with local national legislation Deliver services in accordance with all applicable rules, regulations, procedures and working instruments Carry out local control, verifying the technical consistency of the documents and reports according to the procedures in forces Qualifications & experience Naval Architect degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by within the relevant field of marine engineering Experience working within a Classification Society, a shipping company or shipyards would be desirable Extensive experience working within a senior role, management experience would be desired Fully qualified for surveys and ISM - ISPS - MLC audits The person As a role model it’s crucial you project the highest level of credibility and leadership qualities; empowering and inspiring those around you. As an experienced professional you will have meticulous planning skills and excellent organisational and time management skills able to prioritise and plan complex work in a rapidly changing environment.
