Personal Best Education (Mountbatten School Services Ltd) are proud to be the largest provider of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme within Hampshire. In 2017 the programme saw over 1,400 young people from Hampshire aged 15 to 17 years old embarking on an adventure to improve and develop the skills and attitudes they need to become active and responsible citizens who will in turn, be shaping our future. By working in teams with other young people from their area, they begin their NCS programme by going on an away residential. During this phase they get to partake in exciting, new activities to get to know one another and form new friendships. Phase 2 gives the young people the opportunity to attend workshops to help build their professional skill sets and open their eyes in preparation for their future. Phase 3 of the programme allows them to get more hands on by planning and delivering a social action project alongside local businesses and charities to make a positive difference to their community. Due to the constant growth in demand and popularity of the National Citizen Service programme, here at Personal Best Education (Mountbatten School Services Ltd), we need your help to be able to provide the young people in our society with this fun, exciting, once in a lifetime opportunity. To supervise, support and mentor a group of young people throughout the duration of the national citizen service programme. To assistant the coordinators and hub site leaders to ensure a smooth running of the NCS programme. Liaise with the safeguarding officer to ensure young people's wellbeing during delivery This is a fixed term contract, non-school based role. The hours of work are variable. Accountability Statements Delivery on NCS programmes · Manage a group of 12-15, young people aged 15 to 17 years old with a fellow leader · Provide bonding and ice breaker activities to encourage group cohesion · Discuss any issues with co-ordinators and hubsite leaders · Be responsible for and keeping registers and use of the tablets provided · Attend regular meetings with coordinators and hubsite leaders · Support the young people during their activities and workshops · Motivate and encourage young people through all aspects of the programme · Oversee the travel and sleeping arrangements Timetables for all residential activities · Ensure the young people adhere to the timetables for their activities, workshops and meal times Adhere to Safeguarding and Health & Safety procedures · Be aware of safeguarding issues and have knowledge of incident / accident reporting procedures. · Be the first port of call for any safeguarding or first aid issues · Be aware of, and ensure your groups medical and dietary requirements are met · Be vigilant in ensuring young people have photo consent. Sourcing equipment · Identify appropriate kit and equipment which is required for different activities Staff training · Attend assessment day Date TBC. · Complete on-line training as provided · Support delivery staff through 'on- the-job' training Other · Develop and maintain a professional relationship with fellow colleagues and young people · Attend and participate in the graduation event · Get time sheet signed by the relevant Coordinator and handed in on time Essential skills * Strong understanding and experience of safeguarding * To be well organised * Ability to work well under pressure * Be able to build rapport and empathy with young people and staff * Ability to lead and work as part of a team * Strong interpersonal and communication skills * Adhere to strict time keeping routines * Able to motivate and encourage people to overcome any boundaries Desirable skills * Interested in young people's personal development * Experience of work in the outdoor or educational sector * Experience with handling confidential information * Experience within residential work * Previous NCS experience either as a young person or previous leader * Knowledge of NCS * First Aid certificate
