An amazing Children and Family Centre on London's Southbank is seeking a Senior Early Years Educator to join their family support team.

We are looking for a Senior Early Years Educator to provide high quality play and learning experiences for children and families. The post holder will lead an exciting programme of Stay and Play sessions where parents and carers with children aged 5 and under have an opportunity to meet and engage with learning activities which help to improve the child’s personal, social and emotional skills.

The post holder will also have a hand in leading and developing other activities to meet the needs of young families across Waterloo and North Southwark.

You will be responsible for leading and planning stimulating and engaging play sessions, building and nurturing relationships with parents/carers, monitoring progress of children and developing interventions and development plans to build their skills, undertaking outreach in the community and referring parents/carers onto other activities and organisations that could play a useful role in their lives.

This role would be ideal for someone with a track record of planning and delivering informal and play based learning in an early years setting and who can demonstrate an ability to work closely with parents/carers to support the development of their child. This job will demand strong organisational skills to manage a busy timetable of sessions throughout the school year and to ensure each session is well planned out to provide first rate opportunities for learning and making new connections.

This is a term time only role across 39 weeks a year. The post holder will lead a number of sessions throughout the week, which will include two Saturday sessions a month.


1. To plan and provide universal play learning and crèche activities that meet the needs of babies and children as individuals within groups and to plan programmes of activities that extend their learning and development

2. To promote family support activities and services throughout the local area through active direct outreach to parents/carers as well as through distribution of publicity materials

3. To develop and maintain positive relationships with parents/carers of children attending the sessions, encouraging engagement with the provision and ensuring that concerns are dealt with promptly and effectively

4. To implement policies and procedures specific to children 0 months to 5 years and ensure that these are followed and adhered to

5. To be aware of and open to establishing positive working relationships with other agencies, within the local area to offer a comprehensive support service to young children and their families.

6. To support observations and material for our online tracking system for priority children and ensure all records are kept up to date and reports written in line with agreed policies

7. To work in partnership with the Family Support Manager and the Priority Families and Inclusion Manager to ensure early identification of children’s needs and implementation of next steps and provision plans

8. To work in partnership with colleagues in the Family and Children’s Centre to develop and support a full timetable of engaging activities capable of supporting families and children to meet their needs

9. To promote a working and physical environment in which the emotional, social, psychological, physical, developmental and educational well-being is paramount and that an inclusive and non- judgemental approach is used in all interactions with children and their families

10. To supervise and manage staff (including sessional staff and volunteers) who support play learning activities and crèche and to manage the staffing rota for Stay and Play and associated activities.

11. To uphold and implement the policies and procedures throughout all aspects of the work of the organisation.

12. To undertake any other reasonable duties, as may be required from time to time, as consistent with the scope of this role.

An essential requirement of this post is the ability to undertake two Saturday sessions a month, and in addition to that the ability to undertake occasional weekend activities for which time off during the week will be offered.
