Our new General Merchandise Distribution Centre located in Erith, Kent is where we will process 'GeneralMerchandise' orders along side our existing Distribution Centre in Welwyn Garden City. The Shift Manager will have management responsibility (people and process) for the Erith General Merchandise warehouse. Role responsibilities: * Managing the day to day operation, ensuring targets are hit & the team deliver agreed productivity and throughput targets. Being visible and approachable, resolving issues and queries (including those relating to holiday and pay) fully and speedily. * Managing all aspects of Health and Safety for the site. * Maintain constant contact and updates with the grocery sites to ensure all separate operations are running as one. * Escalating to On-Call personnel as issues arise, participating in conference calls where necessary, ensuring relevant departments are notified. * Training, motivating, and leading your teams * Completing Work Place Inspections, ensuring standards remain high and are maintained at all times, escalating and liaising with in house engineering / contractors / third parties etc. * Completing staff reviews and developing individuals, completing people management meetings as required (probationary reviews/attendance/disciplinary/ grievance etc). Welcome and support all new members to your team, providing additional support required in order to minimise staff turnover. Regularly feedback to them on both successes and areas for development. * Disciplinary & Grievance - understand and apply the company policy appropriately to effectively manage individual disciplinary and grievance cases as they arise - ensuring a consistent approach in partnership with the HR Team. Promote Engagement - by managing seemingly negative behaviours, encouraging active listening, discussion, mutual understanding, and informal conflict resolution where possible * Managing roster patterns, responsible for booking holiday requests, ensuring sufficient staffing levels. Capture and manage employee numbers for a specific work area and manage any exceptional hours e.g. Holidays, Overtime and Unpaid Early Leave. * Constantly driving continuous improvement across the operation, looking at how we can be better tomorrow. * Communication & Engagement - ensure all appropriate team communication is delivered consistently, clearly & effectively to promote good relationships & levels of engagement. * Be of graduate calibre either through education or demonstrable experience. * Substantial previous people management and operational experience within a fast paced warehouse environment. * Practical experience of conducting investigations / disciplinary / grievance meetings. * Practical experience of on the job training and coaching of employees to achieve maximum potential. Ability to identify poor performance and make effective improvements.* Previous experience in a 24/7 productivity - conscious warehouse environment (desirable). * Previous experience of working in an environment of similar scale (desirable). * Working knowledge of computerised warehouse management systems (desirable)., * Merchandise* Training * Conflict Resolution * Warehouse Management * Disciplinary Action
